Reading & discussion
The literary critic Hubert Winkels embarks on a journey back to his childhood - to a Catholic village on the Lower Rhine. The title of the book, borrowed from the song "Und dann die Hände zum Himmel / komm lasst uns fröhlich sein (...)" sets the tone: a mixture of retrospection, reflection and a spirit of optimism.
Publisher Helge Malchow and journalist Johannes Schröer talk to Hubert Winkels about his book and the intersection of cultural and religious history: about relics and rituals, pop and protest.
