A shard of glass has lodged in Kay's eye and won't go away. It clouds his vision and turns the boy's heart into a lump of ice. Brrrrr, the world turns cold and Kay becomes a puke. Eww, roses! Eww, nice people! Kay even becomes terribly nasty to his dearest friend Gerda. One day, when he leaves with the sledge and doesn't come back, nobody mourns him anymore. Except Gerda. She doesn't give up on her friend and sets off to drive the cold out of his heart.
THE SNOW QUEEN by Andersen is rich in motifs and intricate narratives. It is a highly imaginative story about the threat of losing a friendship and the power of not giving up on each other. With snow and fake fur, the TDJW takes up the fairy tale and asks what ice this story can melt today.
