"Notausgang" by Die Verlierer offers a cutting musical flight forward. The Berlin band's second album, released on Mangel Records, proves to be the best gift of the year, despite the gloomy times. The five members have created a musical kaleidoscope that takes an introspective look in the mirror and an inventory of life in Berlin today in fourteen tracks. The songs deal with personal themes such as powerlessness, searching, loneliness and excess, as well as gentrification and the creeping shift to the right in society. The title track "Notausgang" addresses the feeling of alienation in one's own country and the threat posed by the extreme right. Despite the serious topics, the band maintains their musical fidelity. They succeed in mixing post-punk and NDW, rawness and melody, timelessness and contemporary energy.
