It was the last major theatrical event in the GDR: Heiner Müller's seven-and-a-half-hour production of Hamlet at the Deutsches Theater. Filmmaker Christoph Rüter documented the rehearsals. But then time literally falls apart at the seams, history bursts into the theater space... A film about Heiner Müller's work on "Hamlet" and his play "Hamlet/Maschine" at the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin at the time of the "first peaceful German revolution from below" (Heiner Müller) with Ulrich Mühe as Hamlet.
