Digital Humanities Day Leipzig 2025 – g[AI]steswissenschaften? KI zwischen Hype und Handwerk

In the organizer's words:

The Digital Humanities Day Leipzig 2025 (DHDL25) will take place on Dies Academicus at the Bibliotheca Albertina and will focus on the topic of artificial intelligence in the digital humanities.

From Natural Language Processing to Generative AI and Computer Vision - AI technologies are changing the way we conduct research in the humanities. We would like to discuss: What new possibilities for knowledge are opening up? What are the limits and challenges? What attitudes do researchers have towards AI? How is AI changing our research practice and our role as developers?

This year you can expect an interesting keynote by Dr. Christopher Pollin on the topic of prompt typing and AI-supported software development, exciting poster pitches and an extensive poster session with opportunities for exchange and networking. The best posters will be awarded prizes. Together we will discuss current developments, challenges and opportunities in the digital humanities - with or without an AI focus. We cordially invite all interested parties to DHDL25!

KEYNOTE

"Whaat! You don't vibe-code your research tools? New paths and new problems as a digital humanities developer"

We are particularly pleased that we were able to win Dr. Christopher Pollin for this year's keynote. In his presentation, he will introduce the concept of prompt typing - a methodological advancement of vibe coding that enables systematic LLM-supported software development for the digital humanities. It is not only about technical solutions, but also about the changing role of DH developers - away from traditional programming towards methodical and content-based thinking and precise requirements engineering. The keynote highlights both the potential and the new dependencies created by AI-supported development methods.

Christopher Pollin has been a research associate in various projects at the Institute for Digital Humanities at the University of Graz for over eight years. He studied History and Digital Heritage Studies. In the summer of 2025, he completed his dissertation on early modern account books, which he analyzed using a diverse mix of methods. In 2022, he co-founded the company Digital Humanities Craft, which provides services primarily for research projects in the field of DH development and generative AI. Christopher Pollin is also known to the professional community as an expert in the field of prompt engineering. His diverse research interests in data visualization, web development and digital history/digital editions make him a sought-after speaker. More about him: https://chpollin.github.io/
