Do not Fear the Darkness - Chorkonzert zum Advent

In the organizer's words:

Light and darkness are the theme of this year's three Advent concerts by the CONSTANT chamber choir. We invite you to consciously encounter darkness and light, to bring them into a context and to overcome the apparent opposites. Under the title "Do not Fear the Darkness", various works will be performed that deal with this theme in different ways. The Swedish contemporary composer Karin Rehnqvist achieves this impressively in the two pieces "Var inte rädd för mörkret" ("Do not fear the darkness") and "Natt över jorden" ("Night on our Earth"). Heaven and stars accompany us in compositions by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina ("Rorate coeli"), parts of Arnold Mendelssohn's Advent motet and in Robert Schumann's "To the Stars". Two very different works by William Byrd and the British-Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova interpret Psalm 126, in which the famous phrase "Those who sow with tears will reap with joy" appears. The powerful piece "Talismane" by Robert Schumann, which praises God's all-encompassing power with Goethe's words, will be heard at the end.
