"Screen of Solidarity": Focus on sea rescue

Kölner Spendenkonvoi e.V. invites you to a special film series: "Screen of Solidarity" focuses on stories about barely noticed humanitarian crises.
Each evening, the director is a personal guest in a moderated film discussion, which is intended to encourage a change of perspective. The series offers a rare opportunity to explore the human dimensions of need and solidarity through the art of film.

All proceeds from the entire film series will go directly to the protagonists of the film "Moria Six" to support them in their fight for justice.

To conclude the series on December 2, 2025, we will be showing the documentary "One Hundred and Four" by Jonathan Schörnig. The real-time documentary brings a dramatic situation closer that goes beyond imagination. The film shows how agonizingly long it takes to rescue 104 people from a sinking rubber dinghy. Person by person, step by step, the action is accompanied by several parallel cameras. The situation comes to a head when the Libyan coastguard arrives. The rescued people and crew wait for days on the high seas, as no Mediterranean country allows them to dock. Only after a terrible storm does the ship reach a European port.

"One Hundred and Four" has received several awards for its consistent and deeply human approach, including the prestigious Grimme Prize 2025 in the "Information & Culture" category, the Golden Dove Long Film (DOK Leipzig), the Goethe-Institut Documentary Film Prize and the ver.di Prize for Solidarity, Humanity and Fairness.

Director JonathanSchörnig will be our guest this evening. After the screening, he will talk about the cinematic challenge of the real-time documentary, his time on board a rescue ship and the political obstacles to sea rescue in a moderated film discussion.
