Emanuele Soavi incompany und Cristiana Morganti: THIS IS A PREMIERE

In the organizer's words:

THIS IS A PREMIERE

A dance performance by and with Cristiana Morganti and Emanuele Soavi

In this unusual collaboration, two personalities from the international dance world meet: Cristiana Morganti, former protagonist of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and now a freelance choreographer, and Emanuele Soavi, who grew up as a dancer with choreographers such as William Forsythe and Jiry Kylian and has been artistic director of his incompany in Cologne for thirteen years.

Both perform on stage in the dual role of performer and author and use words, gestures and dance to explore their understanding of art and theater, but also their origins, their lives as Italian "immigrants" who have been living and working in Germany for more than 20 years.

THIS IS A PREMIERE is a collage of 'objets trouvés', memories of their performances and their life experiences in the form of physical dialogs. A magnifying glass on certain moments of her controversial and colorful artistic existence that lead to new ideas and associations. But also an ironic and biting discussion about the current "codes of conduct" in the world of dance with implicit obligations and explicit prohibitions and ever stricter production requirements. How can all this be reconciled with one's own stylistic signature and the indispensable need to preserve creative spontaneity? Let's talk about it... and then dance.

EMANUELE SOAVI & CHRISTIANA MORGANTI

After working as a dancer in Italy, Germany and Holland and choreographing for international ensembles, theaters and universities, Emanuele Soavi founded EMANUELE SOAVI INCOMPANY in 2012, based in Cologne. In a wide variety of formats, the ensemble builds bridges between experiment and large-scale project, research and practice, artists and audiences. Their work focuses on questioning the relationship between music and dance, body and world, as well as the further development of a specialized body language and choreographic signature. Not least in places far removed from dance, such as museums, churches, hotels, galleries, clubs and educational institutions, border crossings between artistic genres and even literature and the visual arts are created. She has been invited to numerous guest performances and festivals in Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Croatia, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, South Korea and Belarus.

Cristiana Morganti has worked with a number of established choreographers such as Susanne Linke, Urs Dietrich, Felix Rückert and Joachim Schlömer. From 1989 to 1992 she was a member of VA Wölfl and Wanda Golonka's company Neuer Tanz. From 1993 to 2014 she was a solo dancer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. She began her choreographic work in 2010 and has since presented her creations worldwide at stages and festivals such as La Biennale de la Danse (Lyon), Théâtre des Abbesses/Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), The Place (London), Tanz im August (Berlin), Colors Festival (Stuttgart).

She has created choreographies for the Italian company Aterballetto, the Conservatoire National Superior in Paris, the Junior Company of the Dimitri Academy of Physical Theatre in Switzerland. She works regularly with the Pina Bausch Foundation and is currently an associated artist of the Teatri di Pistoia (IT). Morganti has received numerous awards, most recently the Premio ANCT (Associazione Nazionale Critici Teatrali) in Italy in 2022 for her artistic career.
