Premiere on 18.04.2026
by Annie Ernaux, translated from the French by Sonja Finck
in an adaptation by Riccarda Russo and Ben Denke
At the age of 76, Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux writes about her first sexual experiences at a French youth holiday camp in the summer of 1958. In a constant struggle with the unreliability of memory, she wrestles with language and the truth of her own story. How deeply has this experience inscribed itself into her body, her memory and her life?
"Memory of a Girl" deals with female socialization, shame and speechlessness and is a plea for the perception and preservation of one's own boundaries. In constant alternation, Janine d'Aragona embodies Annie looking back and young Annie, in whom everything begins to totter in the summer of 1958.
