Since her childhood, Lara has lived in a world between two languages: Sign language, to communicate with her deaf parents, and spoken language, which an aunt opens up to her when she teaches Lara to play the clarinet. Music becomes a gateway to a new world for Lara - and an area of tension between her and her parents, who cannot understand what fascinates her so much about music. When Lara wants to start studying music in Berlin, the conflict comes to a head. The sudden death of her mother forces Lara to reconcile with her father and unite their two worlds.
