Spinning threads and weaving them together is one of the earliest cultural techniques of mankind. The use of textiles as a form of artistic expression is just as old. The tapestry in particular, the colorful tapestry, was highly valued for centuries because of its representative character.

With a selection of more than fifty tapestries, the exhibition Welt aus Fäde. Tapestry demonstrates the astonishing aesthetic range of this world of threads, provides insights into the historical development of the medium and explores its artistic relevance today. The loans include traditional baroque tapestries as well as works based on designs by renowned representatives of the 20th century avant-garde. Significant productions from post-war modernism to international contemporary positions are represented.

Welt aus Fäden is a cooperation with the Mobilier national in Paris. It shows works based on designs by Fanja Bouts, Louise Bourgeois, Sonia Delaunay, Max Ernst, Francisco de Goya, Hans Hartung, Wassily Kandinsky, Henri Matisse, Tania Mouraud, Pablo Picasso and many others.
