From 1935, plans for the redesign of Cologne's city center, in particular the Martinsviertel, were implemented under the slogan "Altstadtgesundung" ("Old Town Health"), which were taken up again in 1945. This has shaped the old town to this day. However, the close links between the Nazi measures and the systematic and racist persecution of the population originally settled there have been suppressed.

Martin Vollberg explains this measure on the route from the NS-DOK through the old town using selected examples and life stories and also shows the continuities after 1945.
