We cordially invite you to a preview before the German theatrical release of the Lebanese film "Do You Love Me" followed by a discussion with the director Lana Daher, winner of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation's "The Political Film" Award 2025, who will be connected online.
A sometimes loud, sometimes quiet collage of archive material, "Do You Love Me" is a very special work. It is an essayistic documentary made from over 20,000 sources that presents a melancholy panorama of the memories of a generation that came of age during and after the Lebanese civil war. The film is a journey through Lebanon's audiovisual memory - a love letter to Beirut, told through 70 years of film, television, home movies and photography, backed by music and archival audio recordings. The film reconstructs a fragmented history, characterized by nostalgia, resistance and the eternal question of home and belonging. It is about Beirut, but at the same time about a longing for home and peace that people feel in many places. The film thus deals with a universal and highly topical subject.
Lana Daher is a filmmaker living in Lebanon. She has long been active in the art and music scene in Beirut and works in the fields of sound, image and archiving.
After the film, we will discuss all the questions it has raised with the director, who will be connected online. The film will be shown with German subtitles. The discussion will be held in English.
