The "Sound of Ukraine" festival brings together different eras, styles and musicians who share a common desire to make Ukrainian music audible in Europe. The program combines Ukrainian and European music to make cultural bridges visible. This concert is dedicated to composers who have often been described as masters of silence.

Valentin Silvestrov and Gia Kancheli: "Melodies of Moments" & "Letters to Friends". This concert is a reminder that you don't have to be loud to be heard.

Valentyn Silvestrov & Giya Kancheli
This concert is dedicated to two composers who are often described as masters of silence: Valentin Silvestrov and Gia Kancheli. They are artists from different backgrounds and with very different paths in life, but they share an extraordinary inner closeness. They were friends, listened to each other attentively and spoke a similar musical language - a language of sincerity and inner concentration.
Both composers felt very clearly that today's world is becoming ever faster and louder. Their response to this was quiet music - music that does not need to be very loud to be heard. The program features two cycles: "Melodies of Moments" by Valentin Silvestrov and "Letters to Friends" by Gia Kancheli.

Both are about moments that pass quickly and about people who accompany us throughout our lives.

"Melodies of Moments" are bagatelles in which the melody never stands still: it breathes freely, escapes, returns and lives in the space of rubato and inner freedom.

"Letters to Friends" is music that has emerged from theater and film and has been transformed into a very personal address - simple, full of light and deeply human.

Both Valentin Silvestrov and Gia Kancheli are our contemporaries.

Silvestrov now lives in Berlin, having had to leave Ukraine as a result of the war. Kancheli is no longer with us, but his music remains as a living presence - as a voice that transcends time.

This concert is a reminder that you don't have to be loud to be heard.
It is a music of inner balance, attention and dignity.
