Filmmittwoch: Das Erbe des Diktators – 50 Jahre Demokratie in Spanien

Radio Bremen invites you to a movie Wednesday at the Funkhaus. The documentary "The Dictator's Legacy - 50 Years of Democracy in Spain" will be shown. It will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

About the film: Francisco Franco died 50 years ago and Spain began its path to democracy. We experience these years through the eyes of Spaniards Óscar and Paloma, who were born on the day of the dictator's death and grew up together with democracy. Their story intersects with the accounts of contemporary witnesses who were present at key moments of the Spanish political transition.

Commissioned by Radio Bremen/ARTE, Vincent Productions Hamburg and the authors Pedro Barbadillo and Cosima Dannoritzer have created an elaborate historical documentary that uses impressive interviews and rare archive images to show how difficult it is to restore a democracy - and then successfully defend it against the pressure of the past. A personal and refreshingly clear look at 50 years of history that asks: What does a democracy actually consist of and why does it have to be constantly recaptured?
