Organized by students of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Cologne as part of the Ethno Symposium "Bursting the Bubble of Academia" - open to all students and interested parties!
The event is independent of the Ethno Symposium.

About the movie:

Based on her family's journey through Korea's political history, director Nam Arum reflects on the role of her generation - from the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster to the impeachment trial, the #MeToo movement and the 2022 presidential election.

Her parents belong to the influential generation that drove the democratization of South Korea in the 1980s. Her father was a civil servant, her mother a feminist activist. Inspired by their commitment, Arum wanted to lead a patriotic life herself.

At the age of 18, she experienced the Sewol ferry disaster - a national tragedy in which many people lost their lives due to systemic failures. As she discovered her father's role in the aftermath of the disaster, Arum began to question the democracy her parents had fought for and reflect on the political responsibility of her own generation.
