Filmscreening – Spirit of the Beehive

In the organizer's words:

A screening of Víctor Erice's "The Spirit of the Beehive" (El espíritu de la colmena, 1973) will take place as part of the "Geistesblitz" philosophy festival at the Hegel House Museum. Erice's debut film is set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and revolves around the young schoolgirl Ana and her personal environment. A screening of James Whale's Frankenstein (1931) in her village triggers a confrontation with the human condition in Ana. Erice's film deals, among other things, with consciousness and the relationship of art, especially cinema, to current events and reality in general.

The film evening is divided into a short introduction by Dr. des. Konstanty Kuzma from the University of Stuttgart and Juan Pablo Meza Artmann, independent filmmaker, followed by a joint film screening and a concluding open discussion in which cinematic and philosophical perspectives meet.

The film will be shown in the original version in Spanish with English subtitles
