In conversation with curator Iren Tonoian, artist Nikolas Müller talks about his personal motivation, what drives and moves him as an artist. He shares insights into his working methods - from watercolors and 3D animations to analog video - and reflects on fragility in the body and psyche.
The Artist Talk with Nikolas Müller is part of the exhibition "Fragil - zwei Ansichten" and is sponsored by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and the Cologne-Ehrenfeld district council.

Müller, a trained 3D designer and painter, explores the fragility of male identities in watercolor series, drawings and 3D animations. His most recent work combines painterly watercolor techniques with analog video and examines mental illness, mechanisms of exclusion and social marginalization. Nominated for the Ramboux Prize (2018), the German Music Video Prize (2019) and currently for the NRW Prize 2025, he was honored with the Best Music Video Award in Mumbai in 2020.

Iren Tonoian (*1978) lives and works in Cologne. She studied Media Studies, German and Slavic Studies and Cultural Management at the University of Cologne. As a founding member of artrmx e.V. and co-initiator of the CityLeaks Urban Art Festival, she combines many years of experience in exhibition production, PR and community building.
