"She has changed." That much is certain. But how exactly? And what does this change mean? And what can or must we do? A swarm of adults discuss the children. A diffuse fear is spreading and drawing fine cracks in the civilized order that has been so painstakingly maintained. Once a doubt germinates, it begins to proliferate. How high is the price for supposed security? How great does our guilt become, even though we think we are doing the right thing? Perhaps we could start by baking waffles. Waffles are always a good idea. We, the adults, have stirred the waffle batter and seen nothing.
