Ausstellung: "Wovon träumt Pewen?" mit Neyen Pailamilla

What forms of knowledge shape our relationship with plants and the environment? And how can we build sustainable relationships with them? The exhibition invites visitors to engage with historically evolved relationships with plants, ecosystems and bodies of water and to think together about more responsible ways of interacting with the environment.

On March 19, Neyen Pailamilla will open the exhibition cycle with Neyen's performance "Transplant: Healing in the Mapuche Diaspora". The performance begins in the Botanical Garden and highlights the dialog between natural and cultural sciences, art and society as well as people and the environment.

The exhibition opens with an understanding of plant knowledge as a learning space, healing place and relational practice. The focus is on the Pewen (Andean fir), a sacred Mapuche tree that stands for resistance, spirituality and collective identity. Spring opens up a space for embodied, sensual and communal learning between humans and plants.

Over the course of the four seasons, artists with family connections to Chile, Australia and New Zealand, Nigeria, Mauritius, India and Jamaica enter into a dialog with researchers from the University of Bonn and members of the urban community. Together, they create a space of learning and encounter in which questions of sustainability, memory and change are examined from transdisciplinary perspectives.

The first chapter, "Spring: What does Pewen dream of?", focuses on Neyen Pailamilla's artistic work. Several participatory elements accompany the chapter. In the scent laboratory, which was developed in collaboration with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology, visitors can explore the scent of the sacred Mapuche tree Pewen. Two reading corners, curated by the first black library in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Theodor-Wonja-Michael-Bibliothek, and by the children's and youth bookshop "Kleiner Laden" e. V., invite visitors to linger, browse and reflect.
