The first Funkstation Festival Leipzig brings six regional bands to the stage. Accompanied by three DJ acts, you can dance the day away on September 13. From 3 pm until late in the evening, one exciting artist will take over from the next: from funk to soul and jazz to afrobeats, there's something for everyone.

Camona and Josepha Wawaa bring warm soul, while playaplaya! and The Keeds will make you want to dance with groovy funk beats and Sandman Project and Majazat will immerse us in international music worlds. And also - before, in between and after - hot beats from our DJs.

We are very much looking forward to finally putting this project into practice and celebrating Leipzig culture to the full with you. Come and join us!

The Keeds

Funk meets a broad groove attitude. The result is called "The Keeds" and actually means "dance until the doctor comes", because the Leipzig funk band knows its craft. Tight grooves together with driving bass lines leave no foot standing still. The ri^s are sometimes hard, sometimes cozy and the whole thing is paired with a voice of the very first cream. So put on your dancing sandals and hit the dance floor!

Sandman Project

Rhythmic groove, electrifying guitars and cinematic soundscapes combine to create a funky Afrobeat fusion. Sandman Project is inspired by traditional African music, Indian ragas, soul-jazz trumpet solos and the timeless soundtracks of Ennio Morricone. Look forward to a transcendent journey that combines dreamlike summer moods with genres that transcend borders: Afrobeat, soul, psychedelia, nu-jazz and Mediterranean fusion.

Camona

Camona combines elements of soul, jazz and R'n'B. Over muted guitar and rhythmic bass and drum grooves, stories unfold in warm melodies. Her music is inspired by expressive artists such as Donny Hathaway, Amy Winehouse and Marvin Gaye. Camona is accompanied by her four-piece band, which provides an impressive backdrop to her sound.

Josepha Wawaa

Josepha Wawaa's songs are like her own mantras, always playing with breaks to subvert expectations or categories. She loves to experiment and not take herself too seriously. Her music is influenced by neo-soul, alternative R'n'B and hip-hop. An absolute recommendation for lovers of groovy soul and jazz.

Majazat

Majazat combines modal jazz, African rhythms and Middle Eastern timbres, maintaining a balance between vintage vibes and exciting freshness. A vibrant constellation of musicians from around the world, they have a unique chemistry that is expressed through telepathic musical dialogs between edgy grooves and energetic horn sections.

Playaplaya!

Somewhere between psychedelic funk à la Khruangbin, polyphonic pop hooks like jungle and catchy desert blues melodies reminiscent of Glass Beams or Hermanos Gutiérrez lies the "Playa-Verse". It was created, developed and established by three Leipzig-based beat designers and mood shifters on guitar, bass and drums.
