For the vast majority of Chileans, September 11 is a day of remembrance, when they no longer remember a dream, but a nightmare. The horror and fear have taken root in our everyday lives, in our personal histories, in our shared history and also in the history of our country.

September 11, 1973 marked an abrupt break with democracy and ushered in years of dictatorship and oppression in Chile. On that day, the coup d'état shattered the dreams of thousands of compatriots who saw in the Unidad Popular project the possibility of changing their living conditions and becoming a more democratic, inclusive country with more rights.

Today, 52 years later, we continue to search for our dead, our disappeared, and we continue to reconstruct stories and remind ourselves that democracy is fragile if it is not defended every day.

Remembering and preserving the collective memory is essential so that this never happens again!
