"Writing is a clarification of how reality appears to you."
Documenting is never a neutral record - one's own gaze always inscribes itself into the medium, deforming what it tries to capture. Is this just as true for writing as it is for filming? Where are the boundaries between document and fiction?
These questions are prompted by the two most recent publications by playwright Wolfram Lotz - Holy Scripture I and Dreams in Europe. Lotz likes to focus on the incidental, the uninteresting, the seemingly trivial - and uses it to circle around the real. He explores the space "where reality and fiction meet and both lose their composure".
On Sunday morning, we will talk to him about balancing on the border between writing and filming - about translation, loss, fictionalization and the question of what form owes to experience.
