Anyone looking at German society today might think that it is a country full of drama, conflict and division. That this is the case is a narrative that is politically generated and reinforced by the media. Gilda Sahebi exposes it as a lie, as an instrument of power by authoritarian forces. She demonstrates this in the relevant debates on social benefits, migration, gender, war and peace and coronavirus. Studies show time and again that people are much more often satisfied in their own lives; they support each other and seek connection, not hatred. Where does the search for connection get lost on a social level?

Gilda Sahebi works as a freelance journalist specializing in racism, women's rights, the Middle East and science. She is an author for the taz and Der Spiegel, among others.

Denise M'Baye lives and works as a cultural mediator, singer and actress for film, television and theater in Hanover.
