The green parrots have long been part of Cologne's sky. Birds from the south, stranded in the north, that have inscribed themselves into the cityscape. What began as an involuntary journey has developed into a contradictory existence: fascinating and exotic on the one hand, loud and disturbing on the other. This tension gave rise to the dance production GORJEIO (Vogelsang/PT). The Cologne-based Brazilian choreographer Bianca Mendonça and her international team (Renato Sbardelloto, Gabs Carneiro, Indu Das, Marouf Alhassan, Greta Bartelmess and Vito Oliveira Azevedo) form an independent group of dance and theater makers who have presented various productions together locally and internationally for over ten years.
In their new work, they bring a piece to the street that listens to the parrots and calls up their story. In doing so, they open up a space for connections to their own experiences of migration and integration and pose the question of how the foreign is reflected in bodies and how it is exoticized in the eyes of others. The performance is both a playful "integration measure for parrots" and an artistic experiment: a choreographic, scenic and participatory invitation to invent and try out new forms of coexistence with foreign bodies. Performers, urban animals and the audience meet in an open space in which integration becomes a shared experience through an interactive performance.
The performances will take place on October 24 and 25 at 4 pm on the market square in front of the Kulturbunker Mülheim. Free admission.
As part of the production, there will also be open meeting formats for everyone aged 14 and over: Discussion rounds and public rehearsals where the audience can gain an insight into theater practice and participate.
