GORJEIO

The green parrots have long since become part of Cologne's sky. Once blown here from the south, they have made a new home for themselves among the concrete and treetops. Their calls mingle with the city noise, their colors shine above the roofs and streets, their presence is a symbol of disturbance and exoticization of the foreign body.
This tension gave rise to the dance production GORJEIO (Vogelsang/PT). The performance invites the audience to a special open day - an "integration activity" in which we humans can learn from the parrots what it means to become part of a new community.
The international ensemble takes the play to the streets and, with the green parrots, opens up a space for personal experiences of migration, belonging and being a stranger. With humor and the narration of personal stories, this dance piece deals with the question of what happens during the integration process - from human to parrot and from one culture to another.
GORJEIO is both an artistic experiment and a playful invitation: a choreographic, scenic and participatory encounter between performers, urban animals and the audience. The production was developed by the Cologne-based Brazilian choreographer Bianca Mendonça. Together with her international team - Renato Sbardelloto, Gabs Carneiro, Indu Das, Marouf Alhassan, Greta Bartelmess and Vito Oliveira Azevedo - she forms an independent collective of dance and theater makers who have been working in various countries for over ten years.

October 24 & 25, 4:00 pm each day
Marktplatz in front of the Kulturbunker Mülheim (Berliner Straße 20 51063 Cologne). In case of rain, the performance will take place under cover.
