"They hasten to their end, who think themselves so strong in existence", is the fateful prophecy of Loges at the end of "Rheingold". Wotan already realizes in "Die Walküre" that he has fatally indebted himself by building Valhalla, where he admits the failure of his plan to his daughter Brünnhilde and only longs for the "end". The curse of the Nibelung Alberich strikes again and again and claims its victims. You have to decide: Power or love. One last hope remains: Siegfried, the new hero. But the naive nature boy falls victim to the ice-cold intrigues of a thoroughly degenerate society in which values such as love and friendship, truth and loyalty are trampled underfoot. In the end, the only way out for a new beginning is the total collapse of the system.
Wagner's "Twilight of the Gods" describes the transition from nature to culture, from the world of the gods to the world of man, from myth to civilization, until nature finally regains its rights after the great world conflagration. In the final part of the tetralogy, the musical motifs become increasingly dense until Wagner once again reviews the entire world of the "Ring" in Brünnhilde's great farewell. Götterdämmerung" is a gripping psychological thriller about love, power and betrayal and a tour de force for singers, choir and orchestra. The Gewandhaus orchestra will be conducted by artistic director and Gmd Ulf Schirmer.
