Gretas Metamorphose

In the organizer's words:

In Franz Kafka's famous text "The Metamorphosis", the main character Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning and is transformed into a beetle. The whole family is shocked, no one knows how this could have happened. And while all eyes are on Gregor, no one pays any attention to his sister Grete, who inconspicuously and unobtrusively fulfills her role as a supporting female character. In the end, Gregor is dead and Grete is to be married, but no one asks her if she likes this future... until now.

Theater maker Edith Nana and her team tell Kafka's story from a female perspective: Grete transforms herself and steps out of the shadows. Allied with Milena, who shares her fate as a character on the margins of Kafka's texts, she takes her future into her own hands. The metamorphosis of the women* is made possible by a simple question: Why are you crying?

In a theatrical experience, Edith Nana revisits the story of Grete Samsa and shows her view of things. Close to the stories of Grete, Milena, other women and some female insects, the audience moves through a space between dream and reality, science and literature, in moving images and supposed "reality" exposed on celluloid. In a mixture of performance and installation, they experience what it means to be a woman*. The supporting characters finally get their place on stage.

Languages spoken during the performance: German, French, Persian.

Duration: approx. 90 minutes

Mobile seating is available. Previous knowledge of Kafka's texts is not required.

Afterwards we invite you to an exchange about the experience and transform our stage space together into a meeting place.

During the performance on Saturday at 16:00 we offer free childcare. For better planning, please register your child/children, stating their age, at tickets@theaterimdepot.de
