Großes Concert - Boulanger/Poulenc/Mahler

In the organizer's words:

Lucas & Arthur Jussen Pianos

Lili Boulanger - D'un matin de printemps
Francis Poulenc - Concerto for two pianos and orchestra in D minor FP 61
Intermission
Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 1 in D major

---

The Jussen brothers are back at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig! In the middle of autumn, a piece of spring emerges first: "D'un matin de printemps", one of the few works by French composer Lili Boulanger, paints a spring morning in bright colors in the midst of an otherwise rather dark phase in the life of its creator.
The guest pianists then perform Francis Poulenc 's ambiguous Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in D minor, which oscillates between classical wit and Parisian nonchalance, before the evening is rounded off with Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 1 in D major, in which Mahler also deals with his personal life in a very concrete way with echoes of military marches and Jewish kletzmer music.
