HANNA 2025 – Der Literaturpreis der Landeshauptstadt Hannover

Jehona Kicaj is the new winner of HANNA 2025, the name of the literary prize awarded by the state capital of Hanover since 2017. Jehona Kicaj was honored for her novel ë. From the jury's statement: "A girl arrives in Germany and escapes the Kosovo war. She only knows Albanian, the language with the barely audible letter "ë". Jehona Kicaj's debut novel is condensed into this tiny character. It is about the traumatizing consequences of war, about defending one's own culture against the Cyrillic script of the enemy, about learning German in kindergarten and school, about the stigma of foreign-looking words, names and signs." We are looking forward to a glorious return: Jehona Kicaj completed her Master's degree in Modern German Literature at Leibniz Universität Hannover, where she will now be presented with the HANNA 2025 and €10,000 in prize money by Mayor Belit Onay. Lara Sielmann (DLF) will give the laudatory speech; Elina Duni & Rob Luft will provide the music.
