In the solo exhibition JETZT WEISS ICH WO DAS TAXI IST UND WERDE NICHT MEHR DANACH SUCHEN, the artist Harry Hachmeister (*1979 in Leipzig) is showing works from the last three decades of his career at G2 Schaulager. Hachmeister combines painting, ceramics, sculpture and photography, which are interwoven into an expansive reference system in the exhibition and provide a deep insight into the artist's dense and multi-layered work.
In his artistic practice, Hachmeister repeatedly deals with gender roles, the associated clichés and how to overcome them. He also examines processes of searching for and finding identity in the field of tension of social attributions and constructions.
Hachmeister examines and interprets these themes from different perspectives. In doing so, he reinterprets traditionally and ideologically charged objects or fills them with new content, thereby shifting meanings and developing new, independent narratives.
Hachmeister creates his own visual worlds and cosmos, detached from reality, which elude clear attributions. In doing so, he often interweaves visual and textual elements as a narrative device.
In addition to these fictional pictorial worlds, the artist repeatedly resorts to the depiction of his own body. In doing so, he not only uses intrinsic forms of expression, such as the freely imagined worlds in drawing and painting, but also uses photography to reflect the view of his own self from an external perspective.
The combined effect of these different pictorial strategies leads to a complex variety of forms of expression and perspectives.
Harry Hachmeister (*1979 in Leipzig) studied from 1999 to 2007 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig in the class of Timm Rautert. His works are represented in the following collections, among others: Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig; Museum Folkwang, Essen; Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden; Sammlung zeitgenössische Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland;
Hildebrand Collection, Leipzig.
