LAST YEAR IN MARIENBAD (OmU)

The cinematic counterpart to the nouveau roman revolves around itself: Repetitions and variations of images and dialog conjure up the unreliability of memory. A man meets a married woman in an old-fashioned luxury hotel. He tries to convince her that they met here a year earlier to start a new life together. But the woman can't remember anything. He conjures up their shared past, recalling the affair and the moments they spent together. The fragmentary memories do not convince the woman at first, but gradually doubts arise - could the mysterious man really be right?
