Vocal perfection

BR-Klassik calls the Huelgas Ensemble from Belgium, which specializes in music from around 1600, the "first address for vocal perfection". In Hamburg, the choir under its founder and director Paul Van Nevel presents a program based around the famous medieval motto "Memento mori", which reminds us of the finite nature of life. The program includes laments for Renaissance personalities as well as liturgical works that represent highlights of the vocal polyphony of the time. Following the concert in the Great Hall, the musicians fill the foyer with Orlando di Lasso's "Lamentationes feria sexta in Parasceve" - a touching night concert to round off the evening.
