There are currently around 1.8 million people living with dementia in Germany. The diagnosis is usually associated with questions, doubts and fears, not only for those affected, but also for their relatives. The Heidelberg Dementia Network was founded to support those affected and their relatives. It is a voluntary and long-term association of the City of Heidelberg (Office for Social Affairs and Senior Citizens), the AGAPLESION Bethanien Hospital Heidelberg, the Akademie für Ältere gGmbH and the Caritasverband Heidelberg e.V.. The aim is to increase networking, exchange and the design of services for people with dementia and to pay particular attention to their family caregivers and to develop suitable structures for joint action. A film event on this topic will take place on 26.04.2026. The film "Human Forever" will be presented. In this documentary, filmmaker Jonathan de Jong and humanitarian activist Teu Toebes take an impressive look at the human approach to dementia. They demonstrate the accompaniment of people with dementia worldwide.

Teun is 24, perfectly healthy and lives with people with dementia in the closed ward of a nursing home. Why? Teun is now 24, but not all his life... Now we are still listening to what Teun wants, what he feels and what he thinks. Now he is still free to be who he is and go where he wants, but there is a 1 in 5 chance that this will no longer be the case in the future. That is why he is now looking for answers for later.

The screening will be followed by a film talk with an open discussion and opportunity for exchange. The moderators are Dr. Ilona Dutzi, psychologist and gerontologist at AGAPLESION Bethanien Hospital Heidelberg, Ms. Esther Süs, qualified social worker (FH) at the Haus Philippus nursing home and the Friedensgemeinde Handschuhsheim, and Sandra Hofmann, Digital HealthCare Manager (M.A.) and Head of the Care Support Center Heidelberg.
