Ich bin ein Dreck

In the organizer's words:

a remembrance of Ruth Berlau, Elisabeth Hauptmann and Margarete Steffin | by Laura Götz, Sinje Kortenhaus, Max Latinski and Helena Schamne

Being a writer is not that easy. Marie and Luise know this from their mother: Paula always wanted to work as an author, but as a single parent and housewife, she never had enough time to complete her first book project. So her research and texts remained just an unsorted collection of an unfinished idea. The idea of telling a story about Elisabeth Hauptmann, Margarete Steffin and Ruth Berlau. Three women who, together with Bertolt Brecht, wrote plays and their own texts. Marie and Luise were read the women's texts from an early age, but for a long time they never heard of Paula's own texts...

In a big clean-up operation, the two of them unexpectedly come across their mother's research and texts and fall back into their childhood and the many stories of the three women. For their mother's 60th birthday, they decide to finish Paula's many years of work and finally publish the book. What began as a gift idea is now an unexpected confrontation with her own story, her mother's previously unknown fears and the feeling of being ominously close to the three women.

The collective behind "Ich bin ein Dreck" not only deals with Bertolt Brecht's three most important female collaborators and their work, but also asks how women* can be given a greater voice in theater and literature. The text was developed over several months of joint writing and rehearsal work.
