After his legendary Kiez trilogy at the St. Pauli Theater with LUST, NACHT-TANKSTELLE (now in its 17th year) and RITZE, the "King of Lieder recitals", who began his career with SEKRETÄRINNEN, takes on one of the world's most successful operettas IM WEISSEN RÖSSL by Ralph Benatzky and Eric Charell.

In its new version, it becomes a rousing operetta revue about the longing of city dwellers for the simple life in the country, with melodies by four composers. And Wittenbrink combines folklore with jazz, Viennese song meets classical symphonic music, and underneath it all, foxtrot, march music and waltzes swing. Anyone who knows Wittenbrink knows how virtuosically he can play all these styles.

The focus is of course on the waiter Leopold (a leading role for Peter Alexander in an earlier film version), who has fallen in love with his boss, the landlady of the "Weißes Rössl". But she only seems to have eyes for her regular guest, Dr. Siedler from Hamburg. When the Berlin factory owner Giesecke and his daughter Ottilie turn up and recognize Dr. Siedler as the lawyer of his Hamburg rival Sülzheimer, the intrigues and love tangles gather pace.

But what is actually happening behind the facade? The new version takes a humorous and bitingly topical look behind the scenes of tourism and over-tourism, lovingly and satirically showing how the wishes and expectations of city dwellers and country folk clash.
