At the end of March, 2029, Germany is once again facing an early general election. The government has failed, the political camps are even more irreconcilable than before, and while right-wing militias roam the cities and carry out vigilante justice unchallenged, Jonas' father dies. The relationship between the two has always been ambivalent: Jonas felt closer to no one in good times, and he feared nothing more than his father's sudden outburst of temper.

Meanwhile, Estelle, who is having an affair with Jonas, is preparing for the last three days of the election campaign. She is writing speeches for Sandra Terzinger-Köhn, the most promising opponent to the leading Conservative candidate in the polls. But when the politician throws her convictions overboard to secure power after a right-wing terrorist attack, Estelle has to ask herself whether she is prepared to betray her own ideals.

In his debut novel Here is the Beginning and the End is There, Jean-Philippe Kindler takes a politically astute look at a world that has become radicalized and tells the empathetic story of two people who are at a turning point in their lives because they have lost their footing.
