Jenseitsklang der Hofmusik Japans Gagaku

In the organizer's words:

The otherworldly sound of the Gagaku court music
will be presented by Oliver Richters, Yoshiro Shimizu and other members of the Cologne Gagaku ensemble following the film ENUNDO.

The sounds of the ancient musical instruments often seem dissonant and irregular to European ears.
However, the musicians do not play in the sense of the European category of "music",
but try to bring out the sounds of nature in a natural way.

To Western listeners, it may sound like improvisation,
but in fact they play according to fixed notes and within the rules of gagaku.

The sounds of nature are also a typical element of the city of Kyōto.
