The Cologne-based band combines influences from early reggae, ska and punk with socially critical lyrics. Their songwriting reflects their love of Jamaican ska and early reggae and skillfully interweaves these with electronic beats and samples.

The debut album No Bam Bam (Pork Pie, 2017) was mixed by Grammy award-winning dub producer Victor Rice and was frenetically celebrated by enthusiastic critics and the ska scene. In 2020, the second vinyl long-player Trouble (Pork Pie) was released with twelve grooving dirty reggae scorchers and danceable ska anthems whose lyrics deal with the political issues of the time. In addition to two studio albums and various sampler contributions, JRRF have released four vinyl singles, including the anthem This is Ska, which became the theme song of the festival of the same name.

Once formed as a one-man-band trio with foot drums, the band played as a classic 4-piece for some time. Since 2023, they have been touring as a duo with their unique new sound concept. Johnny Reggae Rub Foundation can look back on countless live shows throughout Germany and Europe, slots at well-known festivals such as This is Ska or the Gdańsk Ska Jamboree and joint appearances with bands such as The Selecter, Bad Manners, Roy Ellis, Buster Shuffle and The Skatalites.
