Copenhagen, on a fateful evening in 1889, the famous playwright August Strindberg attends a rehearsal of his play "The Stronger", in which his ex-wife and her friend are acting. The evening turns into a psychological thriller in which Strindberg battles inner demons between anger and vulnerability. A lost man searching for understanding, but instead alienating those around him with outlandish misogyny and paranoid delusions. The works of Swedish artist and director Markus Öhrn are characterized by a special aesthetic: The actors wear papier-mâché masks, their voices are distorted, movements are slowed down and the stage sets are deliberately reduced. Music and dark sound designs accompany the figures. In this unique stage atmosphere, Öhrn has been telling stories of toxic gender roles and structures of oppression for years, of everyday situations suddenly tipping over into endless loops of escalation. Markus Öhrn's "Kammerspiele" series is produced exclusively for Schauspiel Köln. DIE NACHT DER LESBEN is the first of six episodes in five seasons until 2030 (I. Jealousy / II. Love / III. Family / IV. Dementia / V. Illness / VI. death). Öhrn received the special Nestroy Prize in 2019 for "3 Episodes of Life" and was nominated in the "Best Director" category in 2023 for "Scenes from a Marriage" (Volkstheater Wien).
