Karl-Heinz Ott "The Healing of Luzon"
Moderation: Alexander Suckel
Two German couples meet at a resort in the Philippines. It wasn't the desire to lie on the beach that drove them there, but sheer desperation. "Incurable" was the medical diagnosis for one of them. They seek salvation from a miracle healer who performs operations without a scalpel in an abandoned zoo. Bock, once a famous theater director, dreams of one last great production. Gela, his wife, has wanted to leave him for a long time. Tom and Rikka also wonder whether fate is the only thing keeping them together. - Karl-Heinz Ott confronts his characters and questions about the last things with a ruthlessness that resonates with a deeply human irony (Hanser Verlag 2025).
Karl-Heinz Ott, born in 1957, is a multiple award-winning author, including the Alemannischer Literaturpreis (2005), Candide Prize, LiteraTour Nord Prize (2006), Johann-Peter-Hebel-Preis (2012), Wolfgang-Koeppen-Preis (2014), Joseph-Breitbach-Preis (2021). Since his debut "Ins Offene" (1998), he has been one of the most important authors of his generation; in addition to novels (including "Endlich Stille", "Ob wir wollen oder nicht", "Die Auferstehung", "Und jeden Morgen das Meer"), he writes essayistic non-fiction, for example about Handel, Beethoven and Hölderlin, as well as texts for stage and radio.
