Klangnah. Ein Dunkelkonzert.

To mark the 500th birthday of the composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and 80 years since the end of the Second World War, the Vocalconsort Leipzig under the direction of Franziska Kuba is holding a concert on Friday, 19.09.2025 at 9 pm in the Peterskirche Leipzig. Vocalconsort Leipzig, founded in 1999 by Gewandhauschor director Gregor Meyer and under the direction of Franziska Kuba since 2018, is one of the most distinguished choirs in Saxony and a permanent fixture in Leipzig's cultural life. Less than a year after its very successful anniversary concert "Let Freedom Ring!" in October 2024 to mark the 30th anniversary of the peaceful revolution, the Leipzig choir would like to create another special concert experience with this project that is musically sophisticated and socio-politically relevant. Vocalconsort Leipzig is trying out a new format: a dark concert. The idea for this is inspired by the famous passage from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince": "You can only see well with your heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes." The combination of Palestrina's masterpiece, the "Missa Papae Marcelli", and contemporary works by Reiko Füting, Arvo Pärt and Leipzig composers Shahar Regev and Peter Berg, among others, reveals the timeless significance of peace, freedom and harmony. Concertgoers are offered a unique sound experience when they listen to the sounds of peace from different eras - with the help of sleep masks available on site - completely inwardly and without visual distraction. You are invited to stop and listen to your own resonance of peace, freedom and harmony. After the concert, there will be an opportunity to share and record your impressions.

In cooperation with the Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverband Sachsen e. V. and the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Regionalverband Leipzig e. V., people with disabilities will be able to take part in this concert.

As a result of the City of Leipzig's budget deficit, the funding already approved for cultural events is unlikely to be paid out. This concert is also affected by this.
