Sonosphere is an artistic tool that functions simultaneously as a digital instrument, immersive environment and creative platform for the development and presentation of new performance works. These works combine contemporary dance, electronic music, computer-generated visuals and generative AI.
As a digital instrument, Sonosphere responds to body movements by triggering and modulating spatially arranged sounds, allowing performers or systems to interact with it physically and musically.
As an immersive environment, it generates music and visualizations in real time in response to interactions - whether from a visitor or a generative AI - each of which can take on the role of the dancer within the system.
As a creative platform, Sonosphere provides a collaborative space where musicians, media artists, dancers, composers and choreographers can experiment, co-create and present interdisciplinary works.
The evening begins with a structured interpretation of a composed work and then moves into a second part based on real-time improvisation and interaction.
In the first part, Aaron Bühler will play a composition by Daniel Bisig and Ephraim Wegner based on artworks originally created for the Sonosphere. This remix involves the dynamic manipulation of parameters that control the generation of dance movements by an artificial dancer, as well as real-time audio and visual playback.
In the second part, Alexandra Mahnke takes over the generative AI system responsible for generating movements. Both performers - Buehler through the dancer's movements and Mahnke through her control of the system - are able to make decisions that influence and interact with each other. The dancer plays the instrument through movement, while the computer artist changes the parameters of the instrument and thus influences its acoustic, visual and spatial behavior.
