An afternoon of short films
All films in Farsi with English subtitles.
Unimpressed by censorship, impressive films are being made in Iran; short films in particular can use spaces and address themes that are not possible in more elaborate feature films.
Director Ghasideh Golmakani regularly curates short film programs for the Iranian film festival in Cologne Visions of Iran, mainly by female filmmakers.
The current gender-mixed selection provides insights into different regions, social milieus and narrative styles, following small and large protagonists. Most of the films deal with gender issues and are often poetic, ironic and playful: the harassed emergency doctor, the film casting and the boy without a bathroom.
Followed by a discussion with the curator!
