The Made in Cologne program presents works by Cologne filmmakers and artists - diverse, creative and locally rooted. Feature films, a documentary, an experimental film and two music videos will be shown, which together paint a multifaceted picture of Cologne's art and culture scene. It starts in Cologne's old town(Der Wechsel), where a historical camera is used to tell a debt parable. From there, the path leads to Cologne Finkenberg (It doesn't have to be today), through various Cologne districts(gone tomorrow here today) to the tropical hall of Düsseldorf Zoo(NIDO DE COCODRILO) and back to the Cologne Riviera(Wellenreiter). In between, colorful to confrontational sounds with two music videos from Cologne.

These and other artistic works impressively demonstrate how lively, colorful and diverse cultural creation is in Cologne - with wit, attitude and a very unique view of the world on our doorstep.

The "Kurzfilm im Veedel" format, organized by the SK Stiftung Kultur, also brings short films to the big screen outside the inner-city hot spots in cooperation with the Veedel community centers. "Kurzfilm im Veedel" shows cross-genre and cross-genre short film programs on current topics and controversial issues, with the aim of making short film tangible and visible to as many people as possible.

The films in the program:

1. Der Wechsel (DE, Markus Mischkowski, Kai Maria Steinkühler, feature film, 2016, 6')
Shot in Cologne's old town with an original crank camera from 1928: a parable about debt and the debt crisis... A borrowed 50-euro bill changes hands and pays off all the loans.

2. it doesn't have to be that it's today (D, 2022, Sophia Groening, 8')
Four friends are sitting at the Platz der Kulturen in Cologne Finkenberg. They are looking for the right words and punctuation for a text message that will never be sent.

3. Eko Fresh - Aber (D, 2018, Can Özev, 5')
The "but" is a discourse strategy and is exposed by Eko Fresh as a seemingly universal weapon against other opinions and as a license for incitement and hatred. In this rapped dialog, he succeeds in confronting the resentments surrounding the integration debate in a precise manner and promoting exchange and mutual respect.

4 NIDO DE COCODRILO (DE/CO, Jazmin Rojas Forero, documentary, 2024, 9')
The tropical hall at Düsseldorf Zoo is transformed by an encounter between a woman and the crocodile keeper. While watching and being watched by crocodiles, they talk about family memories with reptiles in Colombia, ghosts and the history of the zoo.

5. gone tomorrow here today (DE, Cornelius and Matthias Bierer, documentary, 2024, 14')
If you come from Cologne or are often out and about in the city on the Rhine, you might have noticed the work of Pusher Tony. With clear typography in black letters on a white background, the Cologne street artist leaves messages on the walls of houses and facades that often don't last long. The two filmmakers and brothers met Pusher Tony again and again over two years and accompanied him with their camera.

6. COMA feat. DILLON - Beyond You And Me (D, 2022, Nicolas Berse, 3:30)
Electronic sounds and feature guest Dillon immersed in a jungle of vibrant colors and melting shapes.

7. wave rider (DE, Markus Mischkowski, Kai Maria Steinkühler, feature film, 2010, 11')
Two unemployed men, Mike and Alfred, are recruited by their old acquaintance to sell ice cream on the beach of Rodenkirchen's Riviera. They are supposed to be rivals, but soon the 'invisible hand of the market' brings them together again. The famous "ice cream vendor on the beach" dilemma, known from economic theory, is illustrated by the American economist Harold Hotelling.
