Short films are exciting, innovative, entertaining and always good for a surprise. The German Short Film Award is the most important and highest endowed award for short films in Germany. It has been awarded to outstanding short film productions since 1956. Since 1998, the nominees and award-winning films have been touring German cinemas every year.

MOTHER IS A NATURAL SINNER
German Short Film Award in Gold - Feature film up to 15 minutes running time
Hoda, an Iranian refugee in Germany, lives with her boyfriend Hadi. An unexpected pregnancy leads her to question common beliefs about gender roles in a relationship and challenges current social norms around female bodies and motherhood. (FSK 16 / 15.00 min / German, Farsi)

AT HOME I FEEL LIKE LEAVING
German Short Film Award in Gold - Feature film category with a running time of 15 to 30 minutes
A young woman returns to her home village in the foothills of the Alps after her father disappears in the forest. While the annual midsummer bonfire is being prepared there, she is torn between the responsibility for her infantile father and the longing for closeness and light-heartedness that she experiences with a childhood friend. The young woman searches for her place between the anxiety of her parents' home and the cheerful hustle and bustle of the party preparations. (FSK 12 / 20.00 min / German)

A street sweeper who is always freezing drives to a remote gas station every evening and orders a microwave-warm Hawaiian toast. He indulges in this in a secretly bizarre ritual, it is the only thing that gives him warmth every day. One night, however, he is observed by a broadly grinning construction worker. Detlev flees in shame, his world begins to fall apart and his desperate search for alternative warmth drags him deeper and deeper into his inner abyss. (FSK 12 / 12.50 min / English)

German Short Film Award in Gold - Category Documentary up to 30 minutes running time
Migrant workers build a shopping center for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 2016, the same place becomes the scene of a racist attack. "And now this hatred," states a woman in Sohrab Shahid Saless' 1983 film EMPFÄNGER UNBEKANNT. (FSK 12 / 14.56 min / German)
