Against the backdrop of the occupation of the Rhineland after the First World War, the Rhineland Millennium Exhibition was held in Cologne in 1925 - the title alone was intended to emphasize a deep connection with a long German history. The exhibition included a section entitled "Jews and Judaism in the Rhineland", which was overseen by the Cologne rabbi Dr. Adolf Kober together with the art historian Dr. Elisabeth Moses. As a natural part of the overall exhibition, both conveyed the affiliation of Judaism to the Rhineland and to German history.
