In his book "Revisionism from the Left", first published in 1982, Alain Finkielkraut examines how the concept of genocide was used to make policy against Israel. He dissected this policy at the moment of its emergence. For this very reason, Finkielkraut's analysis can help us to better understand the current use of the genocide accusation. He can show us why, just a few days after October 7, 2023 and even before the start of the Israeli ground offensive, it was claimed that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. The lecture will discuss the specifically left-wing motives and historical revisionist consequences of this "policy of genocide". This will also illustrate the historical-philosophical assumptions and hopes of left-wing anti-Zionism, which in the past have led to the left throwing their lot in with right-wing and Islamist actors.

Niklaas Machunsky has written a detailed afterword to the German translation of Finkielkraut's book, is a social scientist and lives in Cologne.
