The Long Butoh Night presents the performance The Green Man as a continuation of the intensive collaboration between butoh artist Stefan Maria Marb and British sound artist Nick Parkin, who is this year's guest in residence at Villa Waldberta. At the beginning of the performance, the dancer and the musician interact directly with nature outdoors and then gradually move from there with the audience into the interior of the Meta Theater, where the performance also ends. The joint project is based on the concept of the "Spirit of Place", which is based on an original nature and takes into account the atmospheric quality of the different places in the respective landscape. In ancient European mythology, the Green Man is understood as a guardian of the forest and also as a guardian of the gateway to another, metaphysical world, which manifests itself in the spirit of the landscape.
Following the performance, Alisa Berger's documentary film about butoh dance, which is of particular artistic value, will be shown. The film shows impressive portraits of butoh masters and performers - including Yoshito Ōno, son of butoh co-founder Kazuo Ōno, who died during the filming. "The film focuses on what is hidden," says Alisa Berger.
The evening concludes with a discussion between the participating artists and the audience.
In cooperation with the Meta Theater, supported by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. Stefan Maria Marb is a member of Tanztendenz München, more information at: www.butoh-marb.de
