Laurence, the gentle literature teacher, and Fred, the extroverted assistant director, celebrate the perfect bohemian life in Montréal in the late 1980s. But when Laurence confesses to his girlfriend on his 30th birthday that he feels like a woman and wants to live as a woman from now on, their taste for an unconventional life is put to the test. Against all odds, they face up to the prejudices of their friends, family and society. Over ten years, they embark on a journey that, unbeknownst to them, could cost Fred and Laurence their love.
Laurence Anyways was a project close to the heart of Canadian director prodigy Xavier Dolan, whose subject matter he drew from his own life. In Dolan's cinema of emotions, music and aesthetics go hand in hand and go straight to the heart, between intoxicating romance and bitter sarcasm.
